The City of Miami is looking to reactivate Fort Dallas Park, a hidden patch of green on the Miami River in the heart of Downtown that has been neglected and closed to the public for years.
The City of Miami is looking to reactivate Fort Dallas Park, a hidden patch of green on the Miami River in the heart of Downtown that has been neglected and closed to the public for years. The park contains two structures, an 1897 cottage originally built by Henry Flagler to house workers at his Royal Palm Hotel, and an abandoned restaurant space. In an article from their print edition, Miami Today reports that the Miami River Commission is now looking to lease out the restaurant space to a new operator along with improvements to the rest of the site. The city also hopes to improve and maintain the park’s public access walk to the river as well as the river walk behind.
